Dial Before You Dig

For safety's sake - use caution when you dig.

The British Columbia Safety Authority advises individuals and contractors to use caution when landscaping, gardening, installing fence posts, or doing general excavation work to avoid hitting underground natural gas and propane piping. The best way to avoid an accident is to plan ahead.

Provincial regulations require you to obtain information on the location of underground natural gas and propane lines where you plan to dig. This information is available from your local gas company or propane supplier. When you begin excavating, confirm the location of the utility line by hand digging before you use mechanized equipment for any purpose other than breaking the surface. Underground propane pipes are commonly installed between a propane tank and a building.

Hitting a gas or propane line is extremely dangerous. Don't take a chance -- for the location of utility lines call BC One Call at: 1-800-474-6886

The pictures below are a result of a person using a post hole digger without calling for pipe line locations and he hit an underground high-pressure cross country gas pipe. The resulting explosion took out 2 homes and they never found the guy.
